Lean-On to start broad test center for Citrix solutions

16.03.10

Lean-On has established a complete test center embracing the wall-to-wall Citrix infrastructure solution.

Embracing all Citrix products in the test center, Lean-On will enable customers to achieve shortcuts into the new upcoming areas of VDI, both 1st and 2nd generation. Furthermore, test environments for Citrix XenServer, Citrix Provisioning Server and the Citrix Repeater products will be included, enabling customers to identify real production scenarios for their applications and the ability to deliver applications to the users in the organization.

Lean-On CTO Dannie Rothmann explains: ‘For those of us who have been around Citrix for more than 20 years, it is like a ‘déjà vu’ with the mid 90’s. At that time questions like:

• Will this application work with Citrix? and,
• How do we deal with issues like print integration?

kept coming all the time. Today the questions are:

• How do I deploy my CAD applications?
• How do I speed up graphics and multimedia
• How do I remove WAN latency?
• How do I accelerate my Web applications
• How do I ensure Quality of Service (QoS)

It all started with one single product from Citrix. Today we have multiple solutions, and every solution covers an important part of the chain in the new application delivery infrastructure.

A Desktop to all Types of Users

Citrix is the only player in the marketplace delivering a complete infrastructure from the delivery center to the end user’s device. Utilizing virtualization on Citrix XenApp servers and other servers in combination with the new market leading Citrix XenDesktop solution which includes HDX technology (the new industry standard for VDI graphics), Citrix is able to deliver a desktop to all types of users:

• Imagine delivering desktops to users in China from a delivery center located in Europe.
• Imagine delivering a virtual desktop even if the requirement from the user is a heavy graphics application like Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks or Adobe Creative Suite 4.

Futhermore, the need for automation has never been more important. Citrix can deliver many features out of the box for this purpose. Lean-On can present it, architect it and deploy it and now test it all for customers.

The Test Center Functionalities

Phase one, which includes all Citrix Xen-products started operation already at the end of 2009. It includes support for standard Citrix Xenservers including Citrix XenApp and Citrix XenDesktop. The setup is connected to the Internet through two high-capacity fiber connections and hold numerous Tbytes of Storage ranging from NFS, ISCSI and high-capacity Networking topologies.

In January 2010 we added the new XenDesktop HDX 3D pro, and Lean-On was included in the core Citrix test-group related to HDX 3D pro. Since then, Lean-On has conducted tests for a number of companies who require centralized services for Inventor, Adobe CS4 and more.

Recent tests have included Inventor users logging on from India on a 1.5 Mbit/s line with a latency of 300 milliseconds. They obtained a fully operational 3D user experience.

Phase 2, will include the unique Repeater technology from Citrix, enabling WAN-lines to have close to LAN-line speed due to an efficient acceleration of the traffic and more. The Repeater technology will enable customers to obtain even more speed and ability to centralize their IT services, cutting costs and delivering better services for the users at the same time.
